The young shoots of the Star of Bethlehem plant, Ornithogalum pyrenaicum, a tall woodland herb, boiled and served as asparagus. Common around Bath and Bristol.
John Collinson's 1791 'History of Somerset' says that, "The young shoots of it are eaten by the common people as asparagus." It is thought still to be collected locally, but rarely available commercially.
