Crows

Beatrix Potter wrote to her publisher enthusing about the forthcoming crow-shooting season and looking forward to crow pies. She also started, but never completed, a series of stories about a Crow.


TT Wilkinson's 'Lancashire Folklore' of 1867 says; "The following charms are repeated by children throughout Lancashire and Yorkshire:

The Crow Charm.
"Crow, crow, get out of my sight,
Or else I'll eat thy liver and lights."

The expression 'to eat crow', or 'eat crow-pie' is used in the USA as a way of admitting fallibility.

'Crow and Pie' is a cheery 15th Century ballad about a woman being raped and getting compensation from her attacker.
