Perry is an alcoholic drink, much like cider, made from fermented pear juice. Perry has been known in England at least since the 14th Century (OED) and is especially associated with Three Counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The pears used for perry are specific non-eating varieties, most commonly the Blakeney Red, but several hundred local varieties are known, many with striking names such as Huffcap, Merrylegs, Mumblehead and Stinking Bishop
