A type of wine flavoured with honey and spices, taken for refreshment or used as an ingredient in medicinal recipes (OED).

Known at least since 'The lay of Havelok the Dane' of about 1300; "Pyment to drinke" and described in 'Blackwood's Edinburgh magazine' of 1824; "The varieties of piment most frequently mentioned are the Hippocras and Clarry."
