'Refridgerator Cakes' (or, less frequently, 'icebox cakes') are known in various forms from the USA at least since 'The college woman's cook book' of about 1923, but are usually based around fresh fruit and broken cake pieces. The form with digestive biscuits, chocolate and golden syrup appears to be distinctively English

10oz chocolate
10oz broken digestive biscuits
10oz dried fruit (chopped dried apricots, figs, raisins etc) and/or nuts
5oz unsalted butter
5oz golden syrup

Grease a 10in square baking tin. Slowly melt the chocolate, fold in the other ingredients, spoon into the tray and refrigerate until set. Cut into squares.
