A report in the 'Blackburn Standard' on Saturday 18 August 1888 tells that "The annual seaside trip of the children and imbeciles of the Work-house took place on Monday. The day was beautifully fine, and the outing was throughout of the most enjoy- able character, and everything passed off with eclat. ... after a day fraught with the keenest of pleasure. Mr. Farley has kindly forwarded one gross of black-currant pasties for the Inmates' consumption."
