The ingredients required are: 8oz. self-raising flour. 1 egg. 4oz. margarine. gill milk. 4oz. castor sugar. ¾ lb. apples.
1. Rub margarine into flour, add sugar and apples cut into cubes. 2. Mix with beaten egg and milk. 3. Butter a shallow cake tin and spread mixture over it. 4. Bake a moderate oven for one hour. Cut squares.
In Dorset the cake is eaten hot, but it is equally pleasant when it is cold.
